Smart Omega will advance to the next round after eliminating super team ECHO at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines Season 9 (MPL PH Season 9) play-ins stage.

Going by the new playoffs rule, ECHO decided to pick and face off against Smart Omega in the play-ins stage. ECHO’s plan, however, backfired after the Omega squad secured a dominating 3-0 sweep.

Duane “Kelra” Pillas and Renz “Renzio” Cadua took turns to carry to help their team advance to the upper bracket to face TNC in the second round of the tournament.

Kelra’s signature Wanwan led Smart Omega in the first game, stopping Karl “KarlTzy” Karina using the jungle emblem. This is the first time he equipped this alternate emblem that’s favored by many junglers this season.

It was a tight first game in terms of gold and objectives, until Smart Omega’s gold laner killed three members of ECHO at the nine minute mark. It was in this moment that Kelra and the rest of the squad marched towards the base to secure the first win of the series.

In the second game, Jankurt “KurtTzy” Matira’s Xavier stole the Evolved Lord at the 19 minute mark, but Omega Esports managed to successfully defend their base.

KarlTzy perished in a team fight minutes after the Lord steal. This resulted in Omega taking down the next respawned Lord, which they used to push towards ECHO’s base. They then sealed the second game after an electrifying savage by Renzio’s Masha.

ECHO tried switching up things in the third game, by drafting Balmond for KarlTzy, a hero he doesn’t use often in competitive play. Their cheese pick proved to be effective, as he managed to nab early kills and objectives in the early game.

However, Smart Omega were solid, and successfully defended numerous high ground pushes of ECHO in the late game. The green and black squad found an opening at the 22-minute mark, securing an Evolved Lord and sweeping the series.

Finishing in the 5th-6th place, ECHO will take home US$2,500. Smart Omega will face TNC today, April 29, at 4 p.m. GMT+8.
