The TI champions have been stable throughout the past seasons but they didn’t look nearly as great as their TI10 form. However, Miroslaw “Mira” Kolpakov revealed that the TI-magic is coming back and they’re feeling confident to win the Riyadh Masters.If you missed the series, here’s how it went down.In the first game, Team Spirit drafted a cheesy Mars and Phoenix combo. The Mars, which goes to TORONTOTOKYO in the midlane was able to participate in many fights and ganks, with a great Spear + Clockwerk Cogs combination. RNG went for their classic Chalice Nature’s Prophet which led the net worth for RNG throughout the game. We even saw an interesting juke play in the early phase with Chalice making use of his Sprout to survive.<iframe src="https://clips.twitch.tv/embed?clip=FantasticYummySpindleFloof-me8iArhhu5JUvMHB&amp;autoplay=false&amp;parent=esports.gg"></iframe>The game was a balanced affair until the 30-minute mark when Spirit started initiating fights and picking off more kills. They began pushing highground and took two mid racks from RNG but at the cost of a couple of heroes. With some time off pressure, RNG took the opportunity to invade Spirit’s highground, but it was no easy feat. Kaka’s Nyx Assassin initiated with a great two-man stun but they were overwhelmed by Spirit’s counter-fight. According to Mira, the last pick Outworld Destroyer caught them off guard as it was the perfect pick. It counters Disruptor, it counters Timbersaw, our carry.. it was the best pick ever. In game two, both teams were even in gold and kills at the 20-minute mark, but Gen.G finally got the lead after dominating a team fight dragon.T1 was looking to contest the third Mountain Drake as Gen.G held their ground around the pit. T1 opened with a Tidal Wave from Ryu “Keria” Min-seok‘s Nami, but Gen.G dodged the slow-moving ultimate.Han “Peanut” Wang-ho on Poppy also tried to get an advantage for his team by casting Keeper’s Verdict on Choi “Zeus” Woo-je‘s Ornn, but the T1 player managed to negate the ult with Bellow’s Breath.Once Gen.G secured the Mountain Drake, Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon‘s Gnar slammed both Mun “Oner” Hyeon-joon‘s Trundle and Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok‘s Azir into a nearby wall. The first game was a nail biter with twists and turns on both sides.This brilliant play might have come in a losing effort, but the rest of Secret more than made up for it with two straight wins in games two and three to send OG to the lower bracket.At the 28-minute mark, Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf’s brilliant initiation meant that Secret’s carry Dawnbreaker and offlane Centaur Warrunner was quickly taken out of the fight. Secret did the same to OG’s two supports, but that left Nisha’s Void Spirit as the sole core standing versus OG’s terrifying tri-core.Instead of calling it a lost fight and backing out, the 21-year-old decided to commit onto a half-health ATF, whose Mars had already used BKB. Weaving into the fight, he quickly checked the bottom rune in case there was anything that could help him, and found a Regeneration that would become important later on.Bozhidar “bzm” Bogdanov’s Queen of Pain had the same idea, but Nisha beat him to the rune, and unleashed a spell combo that took bzm down enough that he Blinked away.OG, with all three cores still alive, were still eager to fight. They periodically needled Secret’s mid with spells, expecting the Void Spirit to back away. Emboldened by the multiple defensive spells and items coming from his supports—including Phoenix’s Sun Ray, Treant Protector’s Living Armor, and a Glimmer Cape, Nisha decided that it wasn’t enough to simply back off.Knowing that ATF and bzm were low on health, Nisha continued to dive into the three OG cores with Astral Step, despite having one-third HP. He missed his ultimate, but he still found with his Ethereal Blade and Aether Remnant.At less than 200 health, he then popped his Regeneration rune before entering Dissimilate, managing to avoid the damage-over-time from Queen of Pain’s Shadow Strike and regaining some precious resources. JD Gaming and Top Esports are once again the top two teams in the LPL.Just two years ago in 2020, they were also at the pinnacle of their region, meeting in the Spring and Summer final, where they each claimed their first domestic title in series that stretched the full five games. At Worlds 2020, they also shared the same fate after Suning (now Weibo Gaming) knocked them out in the playoffs 3-1.But after taking a year’s break, JDG’s longstanding head coach Yoon “Homme” Sung-young has returned, helping bring the team back to their full potential. Because TES engaged from JDG’s top side jungle, both teams were actually postured on opposite sides of the river, which meant that Poppy’s ultimate caused Aatrox to fly in the direction of JDG’s base — right into Top Esports’ backline.Flashing back in from an advantageous angle, 369 went straight for JackeyLove’s Zeri. Once the AD carry went down, the game was over. Fewer and fewer tournaments were held, and there became less incentive for players to stay.As a result, competitive players have migrated to other LoL esports leagues, or changed games altogether to Riot-supported Valorant or Wild Rift.Given these trends, you might be surprised about the health of the player base — the overall League of Legends player base in the SEA region isn’t shrinking, Alex shared with ONE Esports.“Audience in SEA for League is stable now. In some countries it’s even growing and it’s not declining. That’s a real fact, which is great news to us,” he said. “We’re not coming in to take over a shrinking business.”Regarding match-making and ranked queue times, he mentioned that Riot will definitely be checking on it once they assume ownership.“Overall, player base is fairly good. We were positively surprised ourselves because we didn’t have too much control here in SEA. We were happy to see it,” he added.The account linking process started on November 18, 2022.
