Day 1 of the Worlds 2022 Play-In Stage saw an incredible performance from SGB Froggy on League of Legends‘ secret weapon, Zac.

During their match against Istanbul Wildcats, VCS representative Saigon Buffalo drafted the elastic champion in the mid lane against Tolga “Serin” Ölmez’s Sylas. Bùi “Froggy” Văn Minh Hải excelled in catching out champions during team fights with Zac’s crowd control-heavy abilities.

At the 22-minute mark, Saigon Buffalo punished IW support Berk “Farfetch” Badur’s Alistar, who was scouting just south of the Drake pit.

The team’s frontline dogpiled him with a barrage of ultimates. Froggy closed in with Elastic Slingshot and started bouncing on the Alistar player. Farfetch tried to flash into the Drake pit for a quick escape, but Nguyễn “Shogun” Văn Huy’s Miss Fortune eliminated him with Bullet Time.

Saigon Buffalo then went for Soner “StarScreen” Kaya’s SejuaniÍ since he got caught in the crossfire. Froggy landed a Stretching Strike on the IW top laner, slowing him down so that the rest of his team can circle around and take him out.

Following the fight, Froggy and his squad accumulated a 4,000 gold lead and claimed Baron and a Mountain Drake.

By 34 minutes, Saigon Buffalo sieged the enemy base through the mid and bot lane to secure their first victory in the Play-In Stage.

The SGB mid laner revealed more about the surprise pick in the post-game interview.

“I’ve been looking at the match history of Rasmus “caPs” Borregaard Winther of G2 Esports, and found out that he’s been using Zac. I tried it out and it really suits my playstyle of pushing lanes and then roaming to the two sides,” he said.

Froggy also elaborated on how he finds more exotic picks for the mid lane. During the Summer Split, he was getting auto-filled into the top lane during ranked games, where he would use Shyvana, a meta pick at the time. After a few tries, he felt that the Half-Dragon was “something special” and decided to bring her into the mid lane.

Holding a 1-0 record in Group B, Saigon Buffalo will face Isurus on September 30, 3 p.m. PST | 11 p.m. GMT | October 1, 6 a.m. GMT+8.
