Avalanche and Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN's parent company, will release Hogwarts Legacy on Friday, a highly anticipated open-world video game.

“Open world style games are a really a significant issue in the games industry,” said Joost van Dreunen, an adjunct professor at New York University Stern School of Business and former CEO of games market research firm Super Data Research. “Gamemakers and customers have high expectations.”

	Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, long before the Harry Potter books, and expands the Harry Potter world beyond Hogwarts Castle. Witches and wizards complete objectives to learn broom flying.


	Warner Bros. games have been hit-and-miss, according to videogamesnewyork general manager Dan Martin. Harry Potter fans' excitement waned after the game's two delays.
