Angry Birds was one of the most popular games of the early smartphone era, and most users had the game on their phones, making it quite popular.

However, yesterday, Rovio, the developer of Angry Birds, made an announcement that it would be taking down the original Rovio Classics: Angry Birds game from the Google Play Store on February 23rd.

The announcement reads: "We have reviewed the commercial case for the original Angry Birds and have decided to take down the original Angry Birds from the Play Store on Thursday 23 February due to the impact the game has on the wider portfolio of games. Despite this, officials say that existing players will still be able to continue playing the game, although new devices will no longer be able to install it.

The game will also be renamed to Red's First Flight on the App Store, pending further review.

Angry Birds was first released in 2009 and has since been downloaded in the mobile market, being recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as "the fastest mobile game to reach 100 million downloads in the world".
